Minimize Memory Use: Chrome consumes in 3-5 times less memory with suspended tabs against normal. Turn off the toggle next to Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed. I'm baffled as these days with SSD drives, there really should be no memory limit on the browser as even if you reached the physical RAM limit you have page file memory to use. If Chrome is using too much memory, you can reduce high memory usage in Google Chrome by managing plugins and extensions and create a new user profile in. Benefits: Speeds Up Chrome: Suspended tabs don't consuming processor resources. Tried with and without "Hardware Acceleration" enabled which I read in one place the theory was the out of memory was due to Hardware Acceleration being on and GPU memory being filled. Still out of memory issues with RAM only at 70% used. Google has since released a "Memory Saver" option in the Performance section of Chrome Settings that does the exact same thing the Great Suspender extension does so I disabled the extension. ![]() I've been able to get it to unsuspend by either double clicking or refreshing the page, but it takes a lot longer than usual and often feels like it won't work at all. Now it’s happening 3-4 times per day where Win wants to close it & it’s driving me insane. If you open many tabs at the same time, you can use The Great Suspender Chrome extension which will unload the inactive Chrome tabs from the computer memory saving a lot of RAM and CPU usage. For example, I had the Google Drive tab in the background. If this is the case, you can disable the software reporter tool easily. You may be surprised at some of the usage here. In Task Manager, you’ll be able to see which apps and tabs use the most memory and CPU power within Chrome. Hover over ‘more tools’ and then select ‘task manager’. It’s using at least 3-4 GB, probably a lot more. To access the task manager, click the three dots in the top right. Every day now Windows tells me Brave is using way too much memory (I have 24 GB) & it wants me to close Brave. I get a blank window when I click on a tab. LastPass, Grammarly, Google translate, Session Buddy & tab suspender. ![]() ![]() I was using the Great Suspender Extension because some web pages run javascript that eats up CPU in the background even when you're not looking at the page. Instead of showing the favicon of the website that's being suspended, it now only shows the marvelous suspender icon for everything. Somewhere between about 16 and 20 tabs open I get out of memory on page loads in Chrome and Task Manager in Windows is showing total physical RAM use about 70% (11-12 GB). 6 extensions enabled (LastPass, Evernote, Mighty Text, a couple others). The extension is meant to help reduce Chrome’s memory footprint for users that like to have too many tabs open at the same time, according to its description.
